Sailors from the Waeg Opti Team approach the opening ceremonies of Sail East on July 22, 2010.
We’ve had a busy few weeks and haven’t had a chance to update the website because of it.
The Opti Race Team, Laser Race Team and the 420 sailors from our Advanced Sailing Class started their racing circuit with ARK in Bedford, and it was a great test of heavy air sailing with winds gusting up to 30 knots on the Saturday. Then it was off to St. Margaret’s Bay for some training before the regatta there. St. Margaret’s Bay is one of the best places to sail in Canada and it didn’t disappoint!
This past week saw the Opti race team and High Performance Race team travel to North Sydney to take part in Sail East (
results here). This is the first experience for many of our participants in an “away” regatta with considerable travel, towing boats and staying in a hotel. Thanks to the many parents who helped drive and organize this undertaking. Racing “away” is a huge commitment and it’s impossible for the teams to do it without involvement from team parents.
We’ve got a few weeks of sailing and training at home and then we head off to Canada’s premier summer regatta, CORK, in Kingston Ontario in mid August. There will need to be considerable organization for trailering and accommodations and parental help for this event is critical for our attendance – so stay tuned for notice of parent meetings.
The dates of Kennedy Cup hosted by the RNSYS have changed to August 25 and 26…. so it’ll be our final regatta of the season. It’s a great one for parents with access to boats to see exactly what your racers are doing out there!
